Willard Carroll Smith Jr. aka Will Smith was born on 25 September 1986 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is an American actor and rapper, also called “the most powerful actor in Hollywood” by Newsweek. Will Smith has won four Grammy awards, nominated for five Golden Globe Awards and two Academy Awards. For his performance as boxer Muhammad Ali in Ali (2001) and stockbroker Chris Gardner in The Pursuit of Happyness (2006), Smith received nominations for the Academy Award for Best Actor, Smith has been ranked as the most bankable star worldwide by Forbes, because in 2014, 17 of his films, in which he had leading roles grossed over $100 million each, and five of them even crossed the $500 million marker. As of 2016, his films have earned $7.5 billion at the box office. Will Smith made his film debut in 1992, as Manny in Where the Day Takes You.

Music Career

Smith showed a lot of interest in rapping in his childhood, he started rapping at 12, he use to emulate heroes like Grandmaster Flash but in a comedic manner that later became his trademark. At the age of 16 Smith met Jeff Townes at a party in 1985, the duo felt a connection and became good friends, and after some time they named their duo DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince, Smith also enlisted Clarence Holmes as the beatboxer of the group, they released their first single in 1985, named Girls Ain’t Nothing But Trouble, the single became hit in a month before Smith Graduated from High school. The duo’s debut album, Rock the House was first released on Word Up in 1986, and then debuted on Jive in March 1987, The group received the first Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance in 1989 for “Parents Just Don’t Understand” (1988), though their most successful single was “Summertime” (1991), which earned the group their second Grammy and peaked at number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100. They are still friends and claim that they never split up, having made songs under Smith’s solo performer credit.

Early Acting Career

Smith was struggling financially in 1990 because of $2.8 million tax debt against him for underpaying his income Taxes, eventually, NBC television network signed him to a contract and built a sitcom called The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, and Smith’s acting career began, the show was a success and had a total of six seasons, Smith decided to become the biggest movie star in the world and started his struggle. Smith was arrested in relation to an alleged assault on his record promoter, William Hendrick but all the charges were dismissed in 1989. In 1995, smith was starred opposite Martin Lawrence for the action film Bad Boys, the film was a box success and made $141.107 million, Smith starred as part of an ensemble cast in Roland Emmerich’s Independence Day, the film was a blockbuster and made a total of $817.4 million, becoming the second highest-grossing film in history.

In 1997, smith starred as Agent J. in Men in Black and the film became the third highest-grossing film of all time and made a total of $589.3 million worldwide, the 3 back to back blockbusters established smith as a prime Box office Draw. The same year Smith also began his solo music career with the release of men in black’s theme song. In 1998, smith was starred with Gene Hackman in Enemy of the State, Smith portrayed the boxer, Muhammad Ali, in the 2001 biopic Ali, he was nominated for Academy Awards for best actor and golden globe award for best actor for his performance, in 2013 smith returned for Bad Boys II sequel of Bad Boys (1995), the film was a box office success grossing $270 million worldwide.

After working on many grossing films, smith returned to men in black franchise, Btw Men in Black 3 was released after 10 years of Men in Black II, smith again reprised the role of Agent J. in Men in Black 3 released in 2012, after the release of film smith ended his work with the franchise, saying,” Three of anything is enough for me, we’ll look at it and we’ll consider it, but it feels like it might be time to let someone else do that”. In 2016, smith played Deadshot in Suicide Squad, the film was a box office success. In 2019, smith portrayed The Genie in Disney’s Aladdin, he also participated in the soundtracks by recording singles, Arabian Night, Friend Like Me, and Prince Ali, Aladdin Grossed over $1 billion worldwide and became Smith’s Highest Grossing film, Smith appeared as an assassin in Gemini Man, released in 2019.

On 25 December 2019, Smith voiced an animated character, Lance Sterling, in Spies in Disguise opposite Tom Holland, the film was about a Badass Spy (Lance sterling) teaming up with a nerd inventor who creates Gadgets, the film grossed $171.6 million at the box office. In 2020, Smith returned to the Bad Boys franchise with Bad Boys for Life, which has grossed $419.1 million Worldwide.



Smith married Sheree Zampino in 1992. Their son Willard Carroll “Trey” Smith III was born on November 11, 1992. They divorced in 1995. Then smith married actress Jada Koren Pinkett in 1997. Together they have two children: Jaden Christopher Syre Smith (born 1998), his co-star in The Pursuit of Happyness and After Earth; and Willow Camille Reign Smith (born 2000), who appeared as his daughter in I Am Legend. Smith and his brother Harry own Treyball Development Inc. a Beverly Hills-based company named after Trey. Smith and his family reside in Los Angeles, California.
