Scarlett Ingrid Johansson was born on 22 November 1984. She is an American actor and singer, played several popular roles, including Black Widow, Lucy, and many more. Scarlett was born and raised in Manhattan, New York City, she spent most of her time with her maternal grandmother, Dorothy Sloan, who was a bookkeeper and school teacher, Scarlett considered Sloan her best friend. Scarlett received her early education in Manhattan, she attended PS 41, an elementary school located in Greenwich Village, Manhattan. She then began studying at Professional Children’s School (PCS), she decided to become an actor at an early age, and she also took lessons in tap dance and states that her parents were really supportive of her career choice. Scarlett practiced acting by rehearing against a mirror until she made herself cry.

There was a time when she was devastated when a talent agent signed on of her brother instead of her, but she never gave up on her dream, she enrolled at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute, and began auditioning for commercials, soon lost her interest and said “I didn’t want to promote Wonder Bread”, She shifted her focus to film and theatre. She made her first film debut in Rob Reiner’s film North (1994), she played the role of John Ritter’s daughter. She then played minor characters in Just Cause (1995), and if Lucy Fell (1996). Scarlett’s first leading role was as Amanda in Manny & Lo (1996), she was nominated for the Independent Spirit Award For Best Lead Female for her performance. She appeared in Fail and Home Alone 3 both released in 1997, she had minor roles in both films.

Scarlett gained recognition for her performance in the film The Horse Whisperer (1998), she played the role of Grace MacLean, who is an injured teen helped by a talented horse trainer, She was nominated for the Chicago Film Critics Association Award for Most Promising Actress. Then she appeared in several movies including, My Brother the Pig in 1999, The Man Who Wasn’t There in 2001, Ghost World in 2001, and Eight Legged Freaks in 2002. Scarlett transitioned from teen to adult roles with two films in 2003, Lost in Translation, and Girl with a Pearl Earring, she was nominated for BAFTA Awards for Best Actress in a Leading Role and Golden Globe Awards for Best Actress for both films in 2003, also won the former for Lost in Translation.

Johansson had five releases in 2004, including The Perfect ScoreA Love Song for Bobby Long, A Good Woman, these three were critically and commercially failed at the box office, but in her fourth release in 2004, she voiced Princess Mindy, the daughter of King Neptune in The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, the film was her most commercially successful work of the year, She Followed it with In Good Company, the film was just fine and had generally positive reviews, Johansson worked with Woody Allen from 2005 to 2009, she was starred in his many films, namely Match Point in 2005,  The Island, Scoop (2006), and The Black Dahlia (2006). Scarlett’s work in 2007 was critically praised in Comedy-drama The Nanny Diaries. In 2010, Johansson debuted on Broadway in a revival of A View from the Bridge, which won her Tony Award for Best Featured Actress.

Marvel Career

Also in 2010, she began to play the role of Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, she first appeared in Iron man 2, as a SHIELD agent keeping an eye on Tony Stark aka Iron Man, before she secured the role she dyed her hair to convince the director that she was right for the part, and also undertook stunt and strength training to prepare for the role, Johansson said the character resonated with her, and she admired the Superhero’s human trait. She also appeared in another entry of MCU, The Avengers in 2012, she was nominated for two Teen Choice Award and three People’s Choice Awards for her performance in the movie. Continuing her work in the MCU, Johansson reprised her role as Black Widow in Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), the role earned her a Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actress nomination.

In 2015 and 2016, Johansson again played Black Widow in the MCU films Avengers: Age of Ultron and Captain America: Civil War, Johansson was pregnant when she was filming these films, they used visual effects to hide her pregnancy, Both films earned more than $1.1 billion, ranking among the highest-grossing films of all time, Johansson earned her second nomination for Critics’ Choice Movie Award for Best Actress in an Action Movie and her fourth for Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actress. In 2018, Scarlett reprised the role of Black Widow in Avengers: Infinity War, and in 2019, she appeared in Avengers: Endgame the Highest grossing film of all time, In which she died as Black Widow, in November 2020 Scarlett is coming with a solo movie Black Widow.

Johansson has been called “ScarJo” by the media and fans, but dislikes the nickname, finding it lazy, flippant and insulting. She is described as a sex symbol by the media. The Sydney Morning Herald describes Johansson as “the embodiment of male fantasy”. During the filming of Match Point, director Woody Allen commented on her attractiveness, calling her “beautiful” and “sexually overwhelming”. In 2014, The New Yorker film critic Anthony Lane wrote that “she is evidently, and profitably, aware of her sultriness, and of how much, down to the last inch, it contributes to the contours of her reputation.” Johansson said that she disliked being sexualized and that a preoccupation with a person’s attractiveness does not last. She lost the lead role of Lisbeth Salander in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011), as the film’s director, David Fincher, though she was “too sexy” for the part.

Johansson ranks highly in several beauty listings. Maxim included her in their Hot 100 from 2006 to 2014. She has been named “Sexiest Woman Alive” twice by Esquire (2006 and 2013), and has been included in similar listings by Playboy (2007), Men’s Health (2011), and FHM (since 2005). She was named GQ‘s Babe of the Year in 2010. Madame Tussauds New York museum installed a wax sculpture of her in 2015.

Singing Career

Johansson is also a singer, she sang the track “Summertime” for Unexpected Dreams, she performed with the Jesus and mary chain for a Coachella reunion show in Indio, California, in April 2007. The following year Johansson appeared as the leading lady in Justin Timberlake’s music video, “What Goes Around—comes Around”, in 2008 Johansson released her debut album “Anywhere I Lay my Head”, reviews of the album were mixed. In 2009, Johansson and singer Pete Yorn released a collaborative album, Break Up, inspired by Serge Gainsbourg’s duets with Brigitte Bardot. In 2015, Johansson formed a band called Singles with Este Haim from HAIM, the group’s first single was “Candy”.

In 2016, she performed “Trust in Me” for The Jungle Book, and “Set it All Free” and “I Don’t Wanna” for Sing: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack. In 2018, Scarlett collaborated with Pete Yorn again for an EP Titled “Apart”.

Scarlett’s mother name is Melanie Sloan, she has worked as a producer. She comes from an Ashkenazi Jewish family from Poland and Russia, originally surnamed Schlamberg. Her father, Karsten Olaf Johansson, is an architect originally from Copenhagen, Denmark, and her paternal grandfather, Ejnar Johansson, was an art historian, screenwriter, and film director. Scarlett describes herself as Jewish. She has four siblings including, her older sister Vanessa, she is also an actress, and older brother Adrian and a twin brother Hunter. She also has a half-brother named Christian from his father’s first marriage. She holds both American and Danish citizenship.

In 2012, Scarlett started dating Romain Dauriac, they engaged in September 2012, in 2014 Scarlett gave birth to their daughter, Rose Dorothy Dauriac. The couple divorced after five years of dating (2017). In December 2017, Scarlett had begun a relationship with Colin Jost, in May 2019 they both got engaged.

In September 2011, nude photographs of Scarlett hacked from her cell and posted online by the hacker, the FBI caught the hacker and was sentenced to 10 years in prison. Johansson also stated that the pictures were sent to her Ex-husband Ryan 3 years Before the incident.
